‘A Breath of Fresh Air’ BBC Gardeners’ World Live 2018

We are celebrating another great success with a GOLD medal for our show garden ‘A Breath of Fresh Air’

Featured on the Association of Professional Landscapers Avenue at the BBC Gardeners World Live 2018 show.

The APL Avenue is an opportunity for the public to see the variety, quality and creativity that can be achieved within a small space and we were really excited to design and work with the team at Keyscape to create this garden.

About the Garden

The garden was imagined and designed for a professional couple in the creative industries who see themselves as part of a modern city.

A Victorian terraced property located in a leafy and fashionable suburb of Birmingham the narrow garden (10m x 5m) is typical of the period and is surrounded by neighbouring gardens and with potential access to the rear. The clients have requested that the space is designed to create a sense of privacy.

The clients have requested a contemporary garden in which they can relax and get “a bit of fresh air’ after a busy stressful day. The garden will be an important to space to socialise and entertain colleagues, friends and family.

Hedging and fencing define the boundaries of the garden and create a sense of enclosure. Trees add to the intimacy of the space whilst also helping to provide privacy and that much needed ‘fresh air’. The planting is a cool contemporary tone of greens and whites punctuated by clarets and pops of colour from orange flowers and co-ordinated accessories.

Offset terraces break up the space and are framed by a series of arbours frame which also add an element of drama and sculpture. The terraces provide areas for socialising and include a wood burner and logstore.

“We have received a fantastic response from the public and are really excited to achieve a Gold medal on our first time exhibiting at Gardeners’ World Live at the NEC, Birmingham this Summer”
